Governor Reynolds Finishes Signing Bills Into Law

Legislators introduced 1,791 bills this year - that's an average of 12 per legislator or 112 per week of the legislative session. It's a lot. Especially considering only a fraction of them are being sent to the Governor. Historically about 11% of the bills introduced each year are signed into law. That's one out of every 11 bills.
The Iowa Legislature sent Governor Reynolds 206 bills this year; she signed all but five into law. You can read more about what was signed into law and vetoed in our Bill Tracker.
- The Governor signed 200 bills into law. She line-item vetoed parts of four budget bills:
- HHS Budget (Item Veto)
- Education Budget (Item Veto)
- Standings Budget (Item Veto)
- Infrastructure Budget (Item Veto)
- The Governor vetoed five bills entirely:
- SF 2207 would have changed the date for the Governor and Departments to file legislation (Veto)
- SF 2299 would have changed requirements for high school students taking community college courses (Veto)
- SF 2320 would have made other changes to community college courses taken by high school students (Veto)
- SF 2453 would have limited state university investments (Veto)
- HF 2667 would have changed the state's building code (Veto)
