Congress in Recess: Meet Your Federal Elected Officials

Congress takes a month-long break every August. This allows our six federal elected officials time to drive around their districts and meet with the people they are elected to represent - without having to run back to Washington D.C. for a vote. Watch for opportunities to meet with them. You can find their schedules in your local newspapers and on their websites. You can also check out the State Fair schedule - almost all of them (and those running against them) will be at the Des Moines Register's Soapbox. You can see that schedule here.
All Iowans have two US Senators - Sen. Chuck Grassley & Sen. Joni Ernst. Sen. Chuck Grassley is not up for re-election this November and Sen. Joni Ernst is retiring. The people running for US Senate this year are US Representative Ashley Hinson (Republican) & State Representative Josh Turek (Democrat). You can find out who your US Representative is here.

US Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks. Rep. Miller-Meeks is
running for re-election and is the Republican candidate in November.
Christina Bohannan is running as the Democrat.
